Is the Vortex Razor DCA compatible with the LER Eyepiece?

I was wondering if you could tell me if you have tested and can confirm that this new Vortex Razor 18x/23x LER (Long Eye Relief) eyepiece will work with the Vortex Razor HD Digital Camera Adapter on the Vortex Razor HD 20-60x85 Angled Spotting Scope? Thanks.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for your inquiry.  Because the new LER eyepiece uses a different housing than the zoom eyepiece for which the DCA adapter was designed for, it will not be compatible.  The Vortex Razor DCA camera adapter will only work with the 20-60x zoom eyepiece.

Best Regards,

Digiscoping with the new Swarovski ATX scope

I'm considering the Swarovski ATX 25-60x85 Angled Spotting Scope.  Precisely what additional Swarovski components do you recommend for compatible use with a Nikon D60 camera?

Also, will this scope attach to a standard tripod mount?

Are lens covers included?  If not, do you have something to recommend?

Thanks in advance for your help and time!

Clay P.

Dear Clay,
Thank you for your interest in Eagle Optics and the Swarovski ATX spotting scope.  Lens covers are included with the scope, and it should be compatible with any standard ¼” tripod threading.

As for a good digiscoping setup for your Nikon D60, I’ll suggest the best setup I can think of; however, you should feel free to give us a call at 1-800-289-1132 as we can talk with you in more detail about using the Swarovski ATX with your Nikon camera.

The setup that should work the best, however, is the Swarovski TLS-APO Digital Camera Adapter with a Nikon T2 Adapter Ring.  You would use this by removing the lens from your D60, attaching the T2 Adapter Ring to the TLS-APO Digital Camera Adapter, then attach that adapter to the body of the D60.  This will work as a lens for the camera now.  There is also a separate component of the TLS-APO that replaces the eyepiece of the Swarovski ATX and allows the camera to securely attach to the Nikon D60.

Camera may not work for digiscoping

I am interested digiscoping in using a Fujifilm FinePix 3800 camera with a Kowa TSN-822 spotting scope. Do you sell the adapters I would need for this?

Hi Gerry,

Thank you for contacting us.  I’m glad you’re interested in digiscoping, however I’m not sure if the camera you have is going to work very well.  For one the FinePix 3800 has a 6x optical zoom.

Typically we would recommend using a camera with a 4x optical zoom if you are wanting to use a point-and-shoot.  With the 6x optical zoom you may have some vignetting of the image.

Another concern is that the FinePix is a fairly long-bodied point-and-shoot, and may not fit on the mounting plate of the digital camera adapter.  With that said, below is the point-and-shoot adapter kit that will work with your scope:

Kowa Point and Shoot Adapter Kit for 60 mm / 66 mm / 82 mm Spotting Scopes

Also, if you are using a new Kowa eyepiece, you would need the following adapter as well.  This is because the newer eyepieces are longer than the original zoom/fix focus eyepieces made for this scope:

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
