Need a waterproof binocular for kayaking

I'm a kayaker and spend a lot of time on and near water. I'd like to bring a binocular along, but I'm worried about getting it wet.  I know most binoculars are waterproof, but does that really guarantee anything?  What other considerations should I be addressing?

Kevin H.

Dear Kevin,

Thanks for your interest in Eagle Optics.

It's true that most modern binoculars have the waterproof feature.  That means the barrels are sealed with O-rings to prevent moisture, dust and debris from entering and compromising the inside of the instrument.  The quality of the O-ring seal is concurrent with general build quality of the binocular. However, as long as the binocular has at least a Limited Lifetime Warranty,  any malfunction of the O-ring would be covered under that manufacturer warranty.

For kayaking, canoeing or any boating, it's smart to stay with a low magnification binocular. A 6x, 7x, or 8x would be adequate, and easier to hold steady while your feet aren't on solid ground.

What do I need to digiscope with my Burris Landmark Scope?

I have a Burris 20-60x-80 Landmark spotting scope and am interested in digiscoping.  Do you have any recommendations for a camera and adapter for this type of scope?

Steve G.

Thanks for your interest in Eagle Optics.

You can digiscope with any point and shoot camera that has a small body and optical zoom below 4x.

Once, or if, you have a camera like this, you can digiscope with the scope and our Vortex Small Universal Camera Adapter.

If you have any further questions, feel free to give a call to (800) 289-1132 and any of us can help.

Will my older Kowa eyepiece fit a new Kowa scope?

Hi there,

I have a Kowa TSN-824M, and I'd like to get something smaller, lighter and angled.  I'm looking at the Kowa TSN 663 ED angled, and wondering if the 20-60 zoom eyepiece and the 30X wide angle eyepiece I already have (for the TSN-824M) would fit this scope.

Neil Bjorklund

Hi Neil,

Thanks for your inquiry.

The eyepieces that you have for your 824M will only fit that series of scope.  The eyepieces for the 663ED are very similar in design, but the bayonet attachment is not compatible between those two generations of scopes.

If you have any other questions, just give us a call.
