Is the New Ranger ED that much better than the old Ranger?

Dear Eagle Optics,
Right after I placed my order yesterday for the , I saw on your site that you had just introduced an ED version. Can you provide any comparative info on the differences between the 8 by 42 versions. If I decide on the ED version, can I return this one and get the ED version?

Hi George,
Thanks for your inquiry.  Yes, the reason for the closeout sale on our popular is because they've been upgraded to include Extra-low Dispersion glass.  The ED glass is gives the new Ranger a brighter image, sharper resolution, and more color contrast.  A good improvement all around in the quality of the view.

Many of the other features (size, field of view, close focus) are the same.  The is slightly heavier due to the fact that ED glass is denser/weighs more than standard optical glass.  One last upgrade to the Ranger ED is that it now has a locking diopter
If you want to give the ED version a try and compare it to the one you ordered, please feel free to.  All purchases come with a 30 day return period and if you go a few days beyond that in order to make the best decision for you, that's okay.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Best regards,
Eagle Optics
