Need a stable tripod for windy conditions

Dear Eagle Optics,
Do you have suggestions for a tripod/head combination that would work best with a  Swarovski ATX 30-70x95 Angled Spotting Scope?

I use the scope mostly in Yellowstone N.P. viewing wildlife.  It can be very windy at times so stability is a concern with a scope this large.  I usually don’t have to pack it far from the automobile as most viewing is off the highway so weight isn’t a great concern (of course, light weight and stability would be nice).  I am 5’11”.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Don,
Thanks for your inquiry.  I would recommend one of the Manfrotto tripods paired with their

As far as a good leg set is concerned, I would consider the following:
For a standard, aluminum alloy version:

For carbon fiber (lighter weight, more stable in wind, more expensive):

These two tripods are the same size, with the only difference being the material they are made from.  Both will pair well with your ATX95.  One nice feature of that tripod head is that you can omit the quick release plate provided with the head, as the ATX scopes will fit directly into the head.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Best regards,

Eagle Optics
