Need replacement eyepiece for older Kowa scope

I have a TSN-822M Kowa spotting scope. The 20-60 eyepiece dropped on the concrete floor. Lenses are ok, but the 3 or 4 of the small bearings are stripped out of the larger lens and body for zooming.

What are my options? Can I purchase replacement eyepieces for this scope model? What is the repair cost for this damaged eyepiece?  Can I purchase a 27x non-zoom eyepiece?

Hi Peter,
Thanks you for your inquiry. I'll be happy to help.
You would need to call Kowa about repair info and cost: 800-966-5692.
As for other eyepieces, you would need the
This converter allows you to use the current Kowa TSN 660/600/82SV eyepieces with the older TSN-820 series spotting scope bodies. Choices would be 25x, 30x or 20-60 zoom.

Is there an iPhone bracket that will work with my Kowa TSN 824?

Hello Eagle Optics,

I am trying to figure out if the Kowa TSN IP5 iPhone 5/5S Digiscoping Bracket is compatible with the 20-60x zoom on a TSN-824.  The text says it is compatible with the 77/88mm zooms, but I know both of those are physically larger than my old 82mm, so I'm kind of assuming it is not.  If this adapter is not compatible, is there one that is?

Thanks for your help,

Aaron B.

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for your inquiry. You would need to measure the diameter of your eyepiece. As stated on the description of the Kowa TSN IP5 iPhone 5/5S Digiscoping Bracket, the scope adapter ring measures 56 millimeters.

If your scope’s eyepiece has a fold-down eyecup, you will want to measure to accommodate it. I’m not sure if the bracket will work with that type of eyecup or not—you’d just have to try.  You can always return the bracket if it doesn’t work for you.

Phone Skope ( is a company which makes brackets for various smart phones and can also make custom rings to fit specific scope eyepieces.  That would be your best bet if the Kowa bracket doesn’t work.

Kind regards,

IPD Question

Question: I have eyes that are set close together, so need binoculars that can come down to about 2 1/4 inches between the center of each eyepiece. Which binocular's eyepieces fold that close together?

Hi Linnea,
Thanks for your inquiry. According to your measurement, you would be looking for a binocular with a minimum IPD (inter-pupillary distance) of 57mm.

Fortunately, you won’t have much trouble finding a binocular with that IPD. If you can let me know your price range, I’ll be happy to make some recommendations.

All the best,
